“The Power of Positive Thinking” is a book written by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. He defined positive thinking as a 4 step problem solving process. The steps are: stop, think, visualize and pray.
Question: How can someone think positive?
Answer: The fastest way to change from a negative to positive thinking is to ask yourself a question. One great question is, “What is the best thing that happened today?” Any question that gets you to start thinking about good things or feelings will do the job.
The long term way to truly develop the power of positive thinking is to make it a habit.
Question: How does someone develop a power of positive thinking habit?
Answer: First realize thinking is an activity that you have control over. Then become aware of your thoughts. Keeping a real time journal about your thoughts can very revealing. Review it at bedtime. You may be shocked at what went through your mind.
Next use your awareness to catch yourself at the start of something negative. As soon as you catch yourself use a trigger or switch, like a question, to get you back to positive thinking. Repeat the process until you’re satisfied with results.
That process will help change a negative thinking habit to a positive one. You can develop the habit of using the power of positive thinking process to daily life.
Start by becoming aware to the situation and the role you’re playing in it. Are you taking a passive, “This is happening to me, and its out of your control” or the active, “This is happening and this is what I can do to change the course of events?”
In order to use the power of positive thinking you have to take an active role.
Question: How do I change from the passive to active role?
Answer: Admit that there may be a lot of a situation that is out of your control. Then ask yourself, “What is one small thing that can be changed?”
Back to the power of positive thinking process. You’re in the active role. Start thinking, asking yourself question and planning. Figure out the entire situation your facing, down to the smallest detail. Write out your plan and include the desired outcome.
After you’ve written out the plan, visualize the outcome. Imagine that the outcome is a scene in a play and you are the main character. You mentally “act” your part in the scene.
The last step in power of positive thinking process is pray. You explain the situation to the Divine. You ask the Divine for you desired outcome. You ask for inspiration in achieving the outcome. Modify your plan based on Divine guidance. Take the next planned step and…
