Why would you want to change your thinking habits?
You want to change something in your life. Changing your thinking habits is the first step for any change, including attitude, mood, exercise, weight, relationship, belief or income.
Changing thinking habits is like making a u turn.
Where to start?
You have already started. You want to change something in your life.
Just a word of caution focus on one thing to change at a time. It will improve the chances of success.
Next access your situation. Most would tell you to identify the problem. What is the problem is very Western thinking, it focuses you on the negative. If you believe the Law of Attraction you get more of what you focus on then this approach is setting you up for more of what you do not want.
Two alternative questions by, Kurt Wright in “Breaking the Rules” emphasize the positive and set you up to get more of what you want. They are:
“What is right?”and
“What is ideal?”
“What is right?” describes your current situation. “What is ideal?” defines your big or long term goal. The goal you may feel is very unlikely.
Now, to continue following the positive path:
The next question becomes “How can the current situation be made ideal?”
The answer to this question may never form in the consciousness but the subconscious may just start moving things in the desired direction. If the answer does form in consciousness it becomes your short term goal(s.)
If a plateau is reached the questions can be used again to reach the next level.
There are a number of tools or catalysts that facilitate a change in thinking habits. Some of these include:
Affirmations
Hypnosis
Being centered
Visualization
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT, Tapping)
Keeping a journal
Being coached
Writing a goal or plan
Accepting responsibility
Becoming accountable
Celebrating successes
It is recommended that you use affirmations, visualization and write a goal. You can pretty much pick and choose from the rest. You do not have to use all of them to change thinking habits.
Okay. You have accessed your situation. You have figured out your ideal. You have found a catalyst that fits. What now?
You use your catalyst and follow your inspiration. Your inspiration may be take action or it may be wait. You may not understand the why of your inspiration but just following it can have amazing results.
Next evaluate where you are now. Where did you get to? Ask the questions again. How well is your catalyst working? Are you comfortable with it? If your catalyst does not feel right choose another.
Write out your revised plan and goals. Repeat process until you reach your ideal.
What was that about five spiritual qualities in the first paragraph?
The five spiritual qualities are gratitude, faith, belief, hope and love. The strong presence of these qualities empowers and encourages you. They are like an immunization against discouragement and apathy.
What if the spiritual qualities do not have a strong presence?
You can take steps that will allow their presence to grow. You can acknowledging what you receive even when it seems small. You can identify one small good thing usually even in very bleak situations. It may be you are still alive. You can use another of Kurt Wright’s questions “What is the best thing that happened today?” You can watch a positive movie, like “Becoming a Point . ,”
